Another example of needle-like and pencil-like uric acid crystals (urinary pH 5.0), appearing as individual structures or as “cross-like” and “star-like” aggregates (arrowheads), in association with a few coarse spindle-shaped crystals (arrow). In this case it has been possible to perform infrared spectroscopy, which has demonstrated that the crystals are made up of bi-hydrate uric acid. This finding is a further support to the view that crystals shown in images 4-7 are due to uric acid.
